My domain is with another provider; how do I change my A records?

Before you can see your published website on the internet, you need to ensure the A records for your domain are set up to point at the correct IP address. If your domain name is NOT registered with Umbrellar, then you will need to make these changes through your domain name provider.

If you have your domain hosted with GoDaddy, you can find video instructions on how to update here.

You can do this by logging into your domain providers control panel or customer portal using your customer details and updating the details through your domain management page. You do not need to change the Name Server details, just the IP address the A record points to.

Your 'A record' may also be listed as a 'web traffic record'. Find this in your domain providers control panel and update the IP address to the one provided on your plan page in the Umbrellar customer portal, as below.

It will take some time for your domain provider to propagate the changes you've made. This usually takes between 4 and 6 hours, but can take up to 24 hours.

You can continue to edit your site, but you will not be able to see it on the internet until these changes have been propagated. You will also continue to get the error message as below on your Umbrellar plan until the changes have updated.

If you still have the below error message after 24 hours, and cannot see your published site on the internet, then it is possible that these changes have not been made correctly. Please contact your domain provider for assistance.

This will be different for every domain provider, so if you need further assistance, please call the help desk for your domain provider.
