Email client SSL warnings

If your email client software prompts you saying you have an unsafe certificate or untrusted for it.  It basically means its not recognising the SSL certificate on the mail server you have set.  This is most common when using the mail server "mail.<yourdomain>" , as you may not have your own SSL certificate on that subdomain.

To get around this you have two options outlined in our Openhost Email Settings Guide:

1) Remove SSL encryption in your software.  You can use a setup such as:

  • Incoming has no encryption
  • Outgoing has TLS encryption

This removes the SSL prompts

2) Use the direct server addresses for your mail server.  These servers are fully SSL secure and you can route through them wtih SSL encryption no problem.
