Securing Your Windows 2008 VPS RDP(Remote Desktop Protocol) connection

Set up your firewall to only allow connections from your IP address.
This is recommended to prevent unauthorised users attempting to logon to your VPS

  1. Login to your VPS via RDP
  2. Click StartAdministrative ToolsWindows Firewall with Advanced Security

  3. Click Inbound RulesRemote Desktop (TCP-In)

  4. Change to Scope then select these IP addresses: then select Add...

Then select This IP address or subnet then enter your IP address

Please note if you or your company or workplace does not have a static IP address you may risk being locked out of your server if your Dynamic IP address is changed.
If this does occur please contact us with your current IP address and we will add that to the firewall for you.
