What do I need to do to transfer my international domain?
The following is information for non-New Zealand domains :
- In order for your domain to transfer you must contact your current registrar and request that they unlock the domain so that it can be transfered and ask them to provide an authorisation code / EPP code. Most Registrars give you access to a control panel where you can self manage this and other settings for your domain. If this is the case then just log in and unlock the domain.
- Next, place your order at OpenHost for the domain transfer. OpenHost will submit a domain transfer request to the current Registrar. This request will go to the current Registrar who will then contact you to get your permission for the domains transfer to OpenHost. It is essential that you agree to this request or the transfer will fail. At this point it is up to your current Registrar to allow the transfer.
- When they do this the transfer will be completed. As you can see there is very little that OpenHost can do in this process apart from sending the initial request to the current domain Registrar. It really is up to yourself and the current Registrar to ensure that the transfer is successful. While this process is running you can update the domain's Domain Name Servers (DNS) at your current Registrar to point to your hosting at OpenHost and create your email addresses, website etc.
