How do I Change Nameservers?

Nameservers need to be set to where ever you have access to make DNS changes, as this determines who controls and manages the DNS for your domain. You can find out what the current nameservers are for using a WHOIS tool

You can edit your nameservers using the following steps:

1. Once you login to your account, go to your domains by clicking on ‘Domains’ on the left navigation menu, then click on your domain name (under the domain column), to go into its properties.

2. Under ‘DNS Hosting’ panel, select ‘Actions’ to bring up the menu then select ‘Switch to Other Nameservers

3. On the next screen, you’ll be prompted to input the nameservers. If you’ve been more than two nameservers, you can add a third by clicking on the + icon:

How long will it take my nameservers to change over?
Typically this can take up to 24 – 48 hours. You can check on its progress using the following online tool: Just select ‘NS’ in the drop-down box next to the search.

I was given an IP to add too, how do I add this?
Our system is smart and modern enough that it doesn’t need IP’s to figure out where its meant to go making your life easier.

What are Openhost's nameservers so I can edit my DNS using my Openhost account?

What is a NameServer?  A  Nameserver is the server which hosts the DNS software and is used to manage a large number of domains under its control.  To put it simply, you can think of a Nameserver as phonebook.  You can't update a phone number if you dont have the right phonebook for the job.   Therefore you can't update DNS values (phone numbers), if haven't assigned the correct Nameservers (phonebook).
