Posted by Thomas on 26 January 2010 10:29 AM

To preview a website on another server you will need to modify the hosts file on your computer:

With Windows:

Step 1. Go to Start and Right Click. Under given menu options click Run.

Step 2. Type in textbox given command: notepad C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and click OK

Step 3. Now under this hosts file please type your hosting server IP Address followed by Yourdomainname as shown below in image.

If you are done then save hosts file using CTL+S

Step 4. Now go back to Start and right click . Under given options click Run. Now type given command: cmd and click OK

Step 5. Under Command Prompt window now type given command: ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

Step 6. Now open your internet browser of choice and clear all the history before previewing your website hosted on our server.

Step 7. Under your browser type the url for your website ( eg. yourdomainname.co.nz) and you should be able to see the preview of your website on our server.

With Linux and Mac OS X

The process is the same, your hosts file is located at /etc/hosts.

Note: Once your testing is completed, you can revert those changes back (by removing the entries of the hosts file).
