What is ASP?

ASP.NET (Active Server Pages) is a set of frameworks created by Microsoft for creating object-oriented web applications.

ASP.NET applications can be written in several languages (such as C#, VisualBasic.NET, Perl and Python).

ASP.NET performs a similar task as other server side applications, like CGI/Perl or PHP. While usually performing faster (because it is compiled rather than interpreted in real time), it has disadvantages compared to other languages, namely that its deployment is limited to Windows servers and it costs more.
