How do I transfer / migrate my website to your hosting company?
Posted by Adrian Grant on 15 December 2011 11:55 AM

Migrating your website to Webdrive is a very simple process and if it is done properly, there will be pretty much no down time to your website and email services.

Please see our following recommendation:

Step 1. First of all you need to place an order for hosting plan with us which subsequently requires you to register with us. Please go to https://www.webdrive.co.nz/webhosting

  • Buy a hosting plan which matches your needs.
  • Register as New Customer or Log into your existing account.

Note: All new customer will receive an email with their login credentials.

Step 2. Log into your hosting account using login credentials sent to your via email by us and do the following.

  • Upload our website on your hosting subscription. Click here to learn how to do so.
  • Preview your website with us. Click here to learn how to do so.

Step 3. Once you are happy with your setup, then you can contact our staff members to help you transfer your domain name to us.

Essentially, in this stage, you need to point your website traffic and email traffic to our servers.  We recommend to actually transfer your domain name to us and if this is not possible, then you can change the name servers for your domain name to be following:

  • Change your nameservers to three nameservers given below.
Nameserver IP Address
ns1.nameserver.net.nz 119.47.119.1
ns2.nameserver.net.nz 66.29.25.63
ns3.nameserver.net.nz 118.127.36.80
  • After completing this step wait for 24 hours for changes to propagate over internet.

Note: Essentially, you want to keep your old account open for two to three days and once the transfer is finished, you can then close your account with them.  It usually takes around two to three days and we recommend to not close your account till then.  Also, during this process, at a point your website would be working from your old provider and when the web traffic switches to us, it would start working from us, hence the website switch would be seemless from your customers point of view.
